hello–if I may be so bold, the above-mentioned architects were certainly an important part of this project, but as far as I know, the head-architect was Pietro Belluschi. AND it was all made possible by the other team-member–the Italien engineer Pier Luigi Nervi.

The hyperbolic parabolas used to design St Mary cathedral demonstrates when the designer has a good understanding of engineering principals, structural concrete can be used to form an elegant beauty . The cupola is 19 stories from the floor and supported by 4 corner pylons, each designed to withstand over 4500 metric tons of pressure. Each pylons is over 7m at it’s narrowest point, and extend u to 26m down into the bedrock.
