This project was an attemp to combine aged units, one, two, three and four bedroom apartment so as to get a slightly better community mix. Previously the Housing commission usually had complete building of only aged unit or one bedroom units etc. This tended to concentrate particular types of housing Commision clients.
The idea of providing roof gardens to about 50% of the units was and idea that Jack Burke- (Housing Commision Chairman) had for a long time.
A three storey prototype was build in Sans Souci to test the units and the roof garden concept

Those apartments were also used in the old movie called: “Playing Beatie Bow” back in 1985. It was definitely in a good location for that movie to be made. I quite like them always wanted to see what they looked like on the inside but in the movie Playing Beatie Bow that was the only opportunity I had of viewing them on the inside. However, twenty five years later I am pretty sure it would have changed a bit.

“… the Sirius apartments on Cumberland, those much maligned “stack of television sets” made of concrete. Few realise that this building was the result of “The Peoples Plan”, apartments with some of the best views in the world, designed for aged, individuals, couples and families. This building is itself a monument to social struggle and public voice….” quote from bulletin issue 4, June 2001

The Sirius Apartment buildings in Sydney. Designed by a mysterious architect, Tao Gofers, these brutalist structures sit menacingly atop the Rocks. Prime Sydney real-estate, surrounded by millions of dollars apartments and terrace houses, the Sirius Apartments are government-subsidized housing for lower income people.
