Can a building which falls apart within a year of it’s opening be considered good architecture? The Guanzhou Opera House has been plagued with multiple problems – cracks appearing in the walls and ceilings, glass panels falling from windows, waterproofing issues, the list goes on…. much of which has been attributed to shoddy workmanship.

Despite these major issues, the building has been described as “gorgeous” and “the most alluring opera house built anywhere in the world for decades”, being able to transform it’s moribund urban environment with its fluid forms.
